We just got rid of Norton and got McAfee antivirus... I'm trying to install it and it doesn't want to work! The installation box didn't pop up, so i tried the alternate instructions, which is to type something into the run dialog box...it says it can't find it! please help me.

Just a note of caution -- McAfee didn't allow me to access the Internet. Try avast.com, Home version -- it's free and I have no problems.

Did you remove Norton completely before attempting to install McAfee?

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool from the Norton / Symantic website.

Make sure that Norton is totally uninstalled. Restart your Pc. If it still does not work try it in safe mode. To do this restart the PC and at the blue screen keep tapping the f8 key. Use the arrow keys to choose safe stratup. Once you are done just restart as usual.

Have you considered AVG or Avast virus scans. They are free and perform quite well.
Norton and McAffe are resource hogs that slow down your system.
