1st thing you want to do is relax. You cant shoot if you are uncomfortable. Feeling relaxed is 1/2 the battle when looking to improve your jump shot.
Squaring your body with the ball is next, and most importantly...find a release point that is most comfortable for you and keep working on it.

Practice. And observe. Take note on what works best for you and try to stick to that. With practice, the mechanical side will be automatic because your body is used to it.
Your basic jumpshot should be 50% accurate or better. Focus on the front lip of the basket and mentally aim for just beyond it. Keep your back and legs straight during the jump. Keep your elbow pointed towards the basket during the shot. Don't forget to follow through. Don't be satisfied with a made shot if it hits the basket, the shot should swish cleanly through. You may tinker with a higher arc or a quick release to simulate specific game situations.
Once you've got this down pat, you can try shooting it on the move, while fading away or leaning in. Each shooting situation should need only a minor adjustment from your basic shot and this you should let your body memorize as well.

i know exactly what ur talking about. all this season i have been trying to make improvements on my jump shot.
1) make sure you dont bring the ball behind your head
2) make sure your shot has a quick release so people cant contest you
3) keep the ball above your shooting shoulder
these tips helped me greatly. i really good way to make sure that you are doing these things is to have somebody video tape you while you shoot so you know what is going wrong with it
