I am trying to copy all my files on my old HD to my new HD, and the new one already has Windows on it. I've tried using a well-known migrate/transfer utility, but it says the receiving disk (the new one) has to be formatted! There's no way I'm formatting it after all I've installed on it already. When I try to just open the old one under My Computer and copy and paste the contents, it gives me a stupid error msg. saying that disk is not formatted and do I want to format it. LOL Umm no, because if I do I lose everything on there & won't be able to transfer anything! Grrr this is getting very frustrating. :-)

Did you try using the microsoft transfer & file wizard? You can just pick the files to back up...... not the OS.

Once the new HD is installed in your PC it prompts you to format the disk because Window's is already installed in it.

You must reformat the new drive OR install your new hard drive and make it your primary drive, then just copy what you want from your old HD to your new one.

It's pretty simple. Should ya have any other questions, just ask Staples.

"That was easy" ....haha

Hi. The disk you are transferring FROM has to be set as a slave drive. There is a jumper on the back of the drive (SL) which does this. Good luck!

you're formating the floppy, not your confusing disk. you want rapid format. The dos boot floppy is a maintenance gadget which you in my opinion will in all risk by no skill be attracted to.
