involuntary implies that they didn't mean to do it, but i think in reality or legal terms it means that the killer didn't premeditate it. personally, i think alot of time it's pure B.S.

Drunk driving would get you a charge of vehicular homicide which is WAY worse than Involuntary manslaughter. Involuntary Manslaughter is more like running a red light and hitting someone and they die. It was completely an accident but it could have been prevented.

accually when I hear the term involuntary manslaughter, I think of the word manslaughter, which of course reminds me of just the word slaughter, you know blood,guts, all that crap. But the accual term involuntary manslaughter usually makes me think of a person that kills another person accidentally, such as drunk driving and such, something they didnt mean to do, but of course they have to pay a price for taking a life. I think they should change the name manslaughter to something slightly less tramatic, if one of my kids was killed by a drunk driver, I wouldnt want to think of them being slaughtered.

Murder = usually premeditated
Voluntary manslaughter = murder in the "heat of the moment", not premeditated
Involuntary manslaughter = accidental death not caused by a vehicle
Vehicular manslaughter - accidental death caused by a vehicle

It means that you meant to do less than lethal harm to the person, and a reasonable person would consider that harmful act to not do lethal harm (say punch them) but because of what you did the person died because of whatever circumstance.

I think that someone accidentally killed someone but could have prevented it. For example, drunk driving accident or say you are cutting down a tree and your friend is with you. The tree falls on them and kills them. Total accident but yet could have been prevented.

Hmmm...I would think that a person died at the mistake or neglect of another person, even if the person didn't it
