i am talking about hooking up to an unsecured network in my range. it shows excellent signal strenght but no connectivity. can this be resolved?

Make sure your drivers/firmware are updated.

First try unplugging and reconnecting you cable/phone connection, your modem and your router. Also try holding the reset button in for a minute. If that doesn't help, choose the repair option by opening command-prompt > ipconfig /release > ipconfig /renew

okay theres supposed to be 5 bars if im right or just a computer to computer icon thing in the start bar which shows what your connection is or if you are connected. You have to click on the icon and it will give a lil box and you say fix or reset device or "repair", its basically doing what he said above which is soooooooo long no offense... anyways that should set you up, if it still doesnt work then its maybe a different kind of link 802.11a/b/g/n so yeah good luck

Since you didn't pay for the network , you have no idea if the person who owns the routers paid the bill for the internet. So there signal since its connecting to the router, but the routers not connected to the internet.

2 possible reasons:

1. there's MAC filtering
2. the network requires a proxy

What makes you think its unsecured? Download a program called network stumbler and it will tell you.

that happens when your router is not assigning correctly an ip to your pc try giving to it one manually
