Can you mix semi gloss latex paint and satin latex paint together?
i bought a whole lot of paints at lowes,that was marked down to like $2 and $4 a gallon,because it was premixed colors,that were custom colors and someone dint pay for so they marked it down.any ways i didnt think to look at the finish,all looked at was that it was latex and made sure it was colors that might look good mixed together.so if i can what will it do?will it just make the semi gloss less glossy or what?or can i not mix them?

After applying thousands of gallons of paint, and having similar situations, Certianly you can, and as Clarkie suggests what will happen is that the SEMI will be dulled down.

I no longer use SEMI unless it's strictly a customer request, and the Customer is always "right" even when they aren't.

The issue is common BTW and a good way to buy paint, even quality paint that was returned in some "Mist tint" issue, largely due to the paint chip sample cards being different than the desired result.

Understanding the "properties" of paint may not be an issue for you, but I offer this anyway.

The "agents" in paint are designed for no less than 3 reasons.

Flat... is not only the easiest to process, but is far more porous than others, offers less 'Cleanability" and is often chosen for a price point.

Satin ( which is my choice) offers a dull sheen, but has agents in it that allow it to be less porous and easier to clean up after the fact...IE: finger prints.

Semi-Gloss is often recommended for kitchens or bathrooms in the assumption that it's agents allow the best clean up.

As a contractor, my issue with SEMI is that it always takes more than a single coat to achieve a desired effect.

You can certainly mix them. Paint is just tint in a medium, this medium being latex. To get the different sheens, a powdered chemical is added to the tint base. Most bases start out as gloss and then when more chemical is added, the sheen becomes duller. When you mix your two paints, you will just end up with a chemcial percentage between that for satin and semi-gloss, the sheen will be somewhere in the middle.

After applying multiple thousands of gallons of paint,,,SATIN is probably my favorite. I use it almost exclusively on any job. You seem to NOT have any issues at all, so use the same basic formulation. You have NO NEED to waste time, energy, money on primers; especially going light to dark; and the formulation of SATIN is as good in its "Cleanability" as a semi gloss. Latex is there; use it forever. The differences are in the AGENTS in the composition of the paints. Flat is a quick fix; often to sell or clean a place; but is porous and not at all condusive to scrubbing. Semi gloss;;;in my opinion so tacky (no pun) is used in the thought that it is the easiest latex to maintain. Satin, especially a DECENT brand; has a decent balance of polymers/ pigments/ etc... designed to give a SOFT looking finish; while offering durability. Steven Wolf

You can mix them. Just pay attention to the amount of each that you use in case you need to replicate the finish at a later point in time.

Sounds like a frugal idea. You should have asked before you bought in case there was a problem.
