I accidentally let my iron touch the indoor/outdoor carpet when I was trying to press a shirt. Now the iron has spots of hardened "goo" on it. How can them be safely removed? I don't want the iron to harm my clothes!!! Thanks!

I, too, have used goo-gone and my mom taught me the salt on wax paper trick. Just be patient as you run the warm iron back and forth on the salt. When it is clean, let it cool and then give it a good rubbing with a damp cloth before using it again.

Try Goo-Gone or put some table salt on a piece of wax paper and run a warm iron over the salt.

If it's not a Teflon coated iron, I use an SOS or Brillo pad. Just wipe it off when you are done, and it will be nice and shiny again. Be sure to blow some steam out of the holes to get rid of any left over soap, or it will get on your clothes.

What my mother used to do when she took in ironing for people (years ago!) was to take a paper bag, pour salt on it, then rub your hot iron back and forth on it. Worked for her!

Turn the iron on the hottest setting and run it across some newspaper.
