If it were a black comic and a white heckler, wouldn't the heckler have been blamed for the "tirade"?

And why didn't the management of the place protect Michael better?

no the black comic would have been prosecuted worser than eddie griffin after he crashed that million dollar ferrari. the white hecklers in your situation would somewhat have been praised for their calmness during the tirade, like the black hecklers. either way, the comic wouldve been in the wrong and if he was black, he'd have to face shame from unity coalitions and threats from hate coalitions like the kkk and stuff. Michael richards just had it coming. and the comic who keeps up the problem is no better part of the solution. they just lose a lot of fans.

I can't believe you are even asking this and yes I am a white woman. Did you take the time to review the videos of the awful things Richards was screaming out? Those were some of the worse insults ever towards anyone, let alone to black young men.

Michael Richards did not conduct himself professionally at all. He should have handled himself better no matter what but to stoop as low as he did was unforgivable.

I was uncomfortable, even as an over the hill, white woman, with grandchildren, to hear the insults about sticking forks in their butts and hanging them, just because they were black.

Once again, you obviously didn't really listen to all of this.

No, if it were a black comic and a white heckler, the heckler would not have been blamed if the comic was acting as bad as Michael Richards and using such awful racial insults against white hecklers.

I'm sorry but you are WRONG!

I still think you are wrong. You will not convince me otherwise. He was on stage, yes, he was being heckled, yes, but he DEFINITELY HANDLED THE ENTIRE SITUATION HORRIBLY!!!!!!!!!!!

He lowered himself about as far as possible and showed his true self to the world and showed the true racist that he is. It would have been one thing to get upset and even to shouted back somewhat but he went WAY OVERBOARD WITH THE RACIAL SLURS! It wasn't bad enough he used most awful racial slurs to begin with, but he talked about hanging black men, etc. He sounded like the type of person who back in the Klu Klux Klan era would have hung a man just because of his race.

Richards sounded like a "Mad" man, the type who needs in an institution.

Because he was wrong, period. However, I will agree with you on one thing, there is a double standard for comedians. Black comedians can pretty much say what ever the hell they want. While white comedians have to be very careful when talking about race. I have heard black comedians call white people "crackers" and "rednecks" before and it was all good. I would hate to see what would happen if a white comedian said the word ****** or **** on stage, and not as a personal attack like Richards did but just as a part of his routine like black comedians do.

Some people find any excuse to make a fuss. Yes, if it were the other way around, then they heckler would be in deep sh*t instead of the comic.

I think this question is old and lacks commonsense. Just because someone is doing something bad to you does not mean it was okay or should ever be okay that you should call them a racial slur. Whether they deserved it or not he could have came back at them with a witty remark...he is a comic after all right? I just think he is a JOKE himself. and by trying to come on national tv and get his famous friends to help him justify his actions is not okay. I am sure there was just a better way for him to deal with the situation and it probably could have helped his act...it just seems like his real self and thoughts came out on this one...and many people of all colors and backgrounds have lost respect for him.. but seriously this happened so many months ago...and i think this issue and question is just soo past tense...

The hecklers didn't make a racist remark towards him when it all began, but they pretty much told him he sucked.

So, I don't get your question. Whey did Richards have to start with the racist sh*t?

I agree and disagree with you.
Heckling someone is very rude, no matter how much they stink at making jokes. They DID deserve some kind of tirade but NOT a racial one. I believe he owed them an apology for the racial remarks but for going off on them they deserved it.

Because he used terms and phrases that are taboo in our culture. They sink to a level of cheap shot that is the verbal equivalent of a kick to the balls.

Welcome to the double standards of society.

Example- if a black person screws up they can play the "race card". White person screws up they're just called stupid.
