Looks like seller had oil changed every 5K miles by the dealer except for once it went 15K (9 months) with no service (based on dealer maintainence record) -- I know that's not good but if all other oil changes were as recommended by Toyota (5K) and I am scrupulous with future maintainence, what kind of life expectancy does the engine probably have? I'd like it to last past 200K at least, it has 50K currently and I'll be driving 100 miles a day every day....

I don't think he did the missing oil changes elsewhere, I pointed out the gap to him and he didn't mention taking it to JiffyLube, etc. (he bought a prepaid maintainence package when he bought the car). All he said was "uhh...that's not good". He did share it with his wife though. Also he bought 4 new tires at about 25K miles which makes me think he drove the Prius hard...I've test driven it and it drives fine right now but I'm worried about long-term engine life.

the Prius is a GREAT car. my parents had a 1980 Corolla Wagon that died with 455k on it. so no worries. that Prius will last a long time. plus it has VVT-i (variable Valve Timing Inteligence) it will adjust to give you the lowest emissions and the best gas mileage. it is a SMART car. so i am certain you will get close to 300k outta that car. i wouldnt worry about that 15k gap. could also be that the dealer forgot to write in the book. but i wouldnt be to concerned about it. if the oil isnt black or looking dirty, no worries. good luck and its a GREAT car. enjoy it! have a great day

I don't blame you for being a little suspicious. The tires should have lasted around 50k,it doesn't add up.Some people would pay a few dollars to run the vin on Carfax. But,a used car is just that and by saving a ton of money by buying used we take chances. It's not likely someone would beat a Prius into the ground. If it hasn't been wrecked and it drives good then go for it.Good luck.

Unknown. He may have changed the oil himself during that time period. Have your mechanic evaluate the vehicle before you buy it, so there will be no surprises in the immediate future.

I see somebody doesn't like your choice. The oil change is no problem. No one goes out and buys new tires at 25 000 for no reason something is FISHY here. Odometer roll back ?
