Is there any laws that are against posting papers on school grounds asking people to vote? I wouldnt think so but I need to make sure.

like a poster saying
" Help Our School and VOTE" ( I don't want to mension the cause because people dont stop and read posters they just quickly glare at it) and every one knows what the voting is about, just some care more than others.

also what is the distance that one has to be from a voting poll if that person is holding a poster with the name of a candidate?

Thanks

First, the law that your referring to doesn't concern posters, signs, etc., how close to a school. What is in the law, is for an actual politican from standing within XXX feet of a polling place, asking for your vote. There is a fear of intimidation and also the fact that if a politican is standing in front of the voting place and just says his name, some people who may not know the candidates that they are voting for, might actually vote for that person, since, they have seen them and heard their names. That would be unfair to those politicans who weren't at that voting place.
Asking people to vote is not only legal, but there are groups that offer to bus people, to and from the polling places, to make sure that they have the opportunity to vote. The problem arises, when the group says something to the effect, I'll give you a ride if you vote for this candidate.

Because polling places are sometimes held at schools, it is illegal to have any kind of campaign signs or anything similar within (I think) 1000 feet from the school. It may be closer than that and may vary from state to state.

There can be restrictions placed on posting papers -- but they would have to be general restrictions that apply to all (or almost all) topics. They cannot just prohibit voting-related posters.

As for polling rules -- those vary by state.
