My first instinct was a "no"
Reading all of the answers so far--I see their point--so I thought.
My answer is still "no"
I was an older parent. I was a very strict parent. Had one of my children done wrong--no, I do not think I should have been punished. They need to learn, although lots of parents need to learn also--the child needs to stand for his/her own mistakes.
My opinion and speaking from experience and thought.

In the majority of the situations, YES! I believe that it's the parents fault for raising them without any discipline or respect. Parents these days let their children run all over them for the simple fact that this world is just too nosy when it comes to the raising of other peoples kids. They feel that if they spank or discipline their child in any way that they will get in trouble for it. In the long run they and their children suffer. You didn't see kids back in the day shooting through schools killing other kids or their parents. If you did, it was very few and far between. You'll thank yourself for raising your kids with discipline and teaching them whats wrong and right.

It's a controversial matter but I vote for absolutely not!!.. I have seen this happen in many different cases, mainly in court and it is wrong. Even though it is a parents job to guide thier children to make the right decisions, children need to live and learn from thier own mistakes!

When I was growing up, parents were responsible for what their minor children did. And, things were not like it is now. Children were not allowed to run amouk, not go to school, commit henious crimes, be so disresectful and amoral, challenge adults, carry weapons, physically abuse their teachers and even abuse their own parents. Parents had their children, therefore they should be held responsible for what their minor children do.

Yes, until a child is 18, a parent is legally responsible for who that child turns out to be.

it all depends, most crimes no parents shouldn't be punished be cause the kids figure they can do all wrong and get away with it because the parents will take the rap.

Yes, because if they would have done a better job (at raising their kid) then the kid wouldn't be causing trouble now!!!
