Is this why they cancelled the message boards, so they could replace them with a forum where nobody can debate - only ask stupid questions and collect points like a third grader?

I didnt know they ever had message boards. It is kinda annoying you cant debate back and forth. I would like to respond to people so often! Why dont they do moderators on a volunteer basis like alot of sites do? I would be one!

I agree, I feel like yahoo answers has become just some stupid competition where everyone answers questions with useless answers just so they can get a couple of points, and move on to a higher "level" like it's some game.

However, I think it was a good idea, its just that good ideas don't always work especially if you're depending on anyone on the internet to make it work. If yahoo answers had some moderators of some sort and people to clean up bad answers it would be much more efficient, but that of course costs way too much money for yahoo.

Every now and then there are some really good questions and responses so I wouldn't say its completely worthless though.

Not at all. It's a collection point for the lunatics to rant and every once in a while get a thought provoking question. It's also a wonderful insight into how screwed up this country still is underneath all the political correctness.

Well if you want to ask a question that you already have an opinion on than yeah they are pretty worthless, but if you have a legitimate question, one that you don't already think you know the answer to then it actually works fabulously.

if i wanna know what political party is the best than im gonna get stupid emotion driven answers.

If i want to know what the answer is to a complicated math problem or what airplane was the to main fighter in vietnam, than i'll most likely get an answer i can use.

it's all what you choose to get out of it.

It depends on what you take out of it.

If you are willing to look at the various answers, and see the different perspectives -- if you are willing to consider other points of view -- then you can learn a lot about how you think, and why you believe what you believe. Which makes you better able to choose what to believe, and to explain it to others.

And many of the sections deal primarily with fact-based issues, so it's less about opinion and more about who can do better research.

But if all people are going to do is post "questions" stating what they want to believe, and pick the answer that most closely agrees with their set-in-stone conclusions, then yes, that part is wasted bandwidth and wasted time.

It's all about what you choose to do with what's here, and what you choose to learn from what's available to you.

The message boards were cancelled because someone threatened to sue. Yahoo Answers will be what people make of the venue. If trolls continue to create multiple accounts for the sole purpose of Bush bashing YA will probably be eliminated as well.

Some are but not all.
I have helped many people that have real questions about psychology and such.

They should cancel the immigration forum because of what you just mentioned.

It is just a forum to keep dole heads out of trouble. A ploy to take the steam. Nothing comes of it.

yes, yahoo is too cheap to employ moderators so eventually everything degenerates into constant trolling

and I do get the distinct feeling that I am back in the third grade when I come by here

I miss the message boards too. They were considerably more fun and informative than this goofball format. Kept me up past bedtime on more than one occasion!
