play every day, think what you`re doing wrong, or what you can improve, and get better on that. Search in internet for resources. Also, "play" means warm up, do exercises, and actually play songs. Use a metronome too.

I played Base Guitar for a long time, I was decent and could play most songs and Albums by ear; but I was lacking that edge. So I got with a serious studio musician that has played with many differant bands and played many styles of music, after a few weeks of begging, I finally convinced him to Teach me. His name was Bob Scott, This made all the differance, and then I found some other area musicians to have regular Jam Sessions (at least once a week) and I played at least one or two hours every day (or night). I got really good really fast. This is the best way to go if you really want it, you have to work for it, but do not be afraid to find someone to give you the extra edge, man it goes a long ways. Also, go to a music/guitar store, and find guitar books/lessons by Joe Satriani (Surfing the Alien).

Buy a decent guitar and amp. Probably a cheap Fender strat and one of those tiny Marshalls with built in EFX would be good enough.

Download tablature, and then download the songs on Itunes and learn to play along with them.

I bought a beringer electric guitar from a guitar shop... it works great... so do the fenders... but my favorite are the accoustic guitars. and go buy some extra strings for it from hastings as soon as you buy it because there aint no garentee that those strings will hold up... so check to make sure the strings are strong... and make sure that it'll tune right...

Practice, get a beginners book or DVD, also if you can afford it and have an interest in it you might want to talk to your local music store clerk about finding someone who gives lessons. Any questions you have most likely can be answered by someone at your local music store.

play it, practice, have a good interest in it, play the tunes you like on it, most importantly; practice. That's it, you can try lessons from a teacher. You have to be interested though
