Global warming is here to stay. Irreversable damage has been done. Actually, its just nature taking its course. Every species of living thing does some type of alteration to its habitat. Take, for instance, the deer population. If they overpopulate, then they have a food shortage (alteration of habitat) and since they are closer together disease is spread much easier. Many of them die from hunger and disease, and the population dwindles. With fewer numbers, disease stops spreading and food becomes more abundent. Its just a cycle. The human population is getting so big that we are now beginning to see the effects of our presence on our habitat with global warming.
Its just a natural cycle for a species to overpopulate, go through the consequences of it, and dwindle in size because of the consequences. Or become extinct. Mankind isn't immune to these cycles.
The earth has been through many, many changes in its time. Global warming or not, the earth itself will continue to exist and spin around in space, whether or not we exist on it. If the earth could talk, do you think it would care if we made ourselves extinct? Probably not. Its probably looking forward to the next dominant species out of curiosity (which will probably be cockroaches).

Global Warming will come to an end when the human race ceases to produce CO2, NOx, and the other greenhouse gases. EVEN THEN; the amount of time it takes for the climate cycle to stabilize itself would be (I only estimate) a few hundred years. The amount of greenhouse gases other pollutants we emit every day from vehicles, engines, industrial plants, and power plants dwarfs what we emitted a few hundred years ago.
These gases have always been in our atmosphere. Volcano's and other natural processes release methane and co2.
This is all about the amounts of the stuff WE put into the atmosphere. I do not have numbers but what volcano's did throughout time (particle pollution blocking sunlight, sulfuric acid in the stratosphere reflecting sunlight back into space, the resulting drop of temperatures, etc.) we are doing the opposite and in GREAT numbers.
Speeding up the process of stopping climate change would be shut down every internal combustion engine, smokestack and anything else man made that emits any carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, ozone, nitrogen oxides, etc.
HOWEVER - this is obviously not feasible unless you wipe out mankind, so.... If we reduced the amount we produce every day, month, year. We MIGHT be able to stop aggravating the problem before we reach the point of "no-return." The point of "no-return" is when we have put too much strain on the planets ability to stabilize the climate. If we stopped everything right now, its possible that the sea ice would stop retreating. It's also possible that the sea level would cease to rise annually. We DO know that if we continue "business as usual", we are in BIG trouble.
The earth has not always been this warm. We are dangerously approaching the point in which the sea ice and glaciers have not been so small or non-existent since before we were a species. In addition, when the ocean conveyor (thermohaline circulation) stops transferring heat to northern latitudes we are going to see a cooling (especially in places away from the equator) AFTER we see warming global temps. Saying nothing about all the hurricanes and possibility of major volcanic eruptions further complicating the future.
In conclusion I believe that we are really close to make it or break it concerning our future as a race. If we don't do something now, our children and children's children may not have a nice temperate day to enjoy, and it won't be natures fault.

Global Warming and Global Cooling happens in cycles. The fact is we are currently in a glaciated era. We know why the Earth cools into Ice Ages, but we have no clue why we warm back up again. The world has been much warm, in fact there has been several times in the Earth history where we can find no evidences for glaciers anywhere on the earth. So it is possible that we are moving out of the cool house era and into a hot house climate. Last point, are humans having an effect. I would say yes.

Global Warming/Climate Change is not as big a problem as some would have you to believe. A recent article in the New York Times has even asked Al Gore to stop all the hype:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/13/science/13gore.html?_r=1&oref=slogin That same article talks about Al Gore's claim that the oceans could rise 20 feet is exaggerated by 18.08 FEET! The latest UN study on the subject says the seas could rise a MAXIMUM of 23 inches. Al was only 18.08 FEET off. That, my freind IS hype...
If you look up any global temperature chart on the net, you'll find the earth's temperature has only increased by about 6/10 of one degree (C) - that's 1.1 degree (F), in the last 125 years. So yes, the globe is warming up, but it's not overheating like some would have you to believe. http://data.giss.nasa.gov:80/gistemp/2005/2005cal_fig1.gif
The latest research shows that the methane from cows and pigs is a major factor in the increase of "heat trapping gas". It's actually 23 times more potent as a heat trapping gas than is carbon dioxide. http://www.greenpeace.org/international/campaigns/climate-change/science/other_gases According to the newest UN report on Global Warming, "Livestock are responsible for 18 per cent of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming, more than cars, planes and all other forms of transport put together." http://news.independent.co.uk:80/environment/article2062484.ece
So if Al Gore and all the alarmists really want to do something about climate change, they MUST become vegetarians and shut down cow and pig farms. I mean seriously, if they truly believe that global warming is as disastrous as they are preaching then they need to stop eating meat, period! I doubt that will happen. If not, then they are the hypocrites that some of us already suspect they are.
Also Al Gore preaches to you to conserve, but he does not practice it himself. He uses 20 times more energy in his Nashville mansion than the national average. http://www.tennesseepolicy.org/main/article.php?article_id=367
One thing he has not learned is that you MUST practice what you preach... at some point you will get caught as he has.

Global warming will end when it's time for the global cooling cycle to start, just like it has always been since the beginning of time.
It's been MUCH warmer in the past, so we've probably got a lot more warming left in this cycle.
There is nothing you can do to stop it or even slow it down.

Remember this, Earth is millions of years old. Earth has been through tons of changes and will continue this process forever. Global warming is just another change for planet Earth. On the life of Earth, we are only here for a millisecond.

Maybe when the earth reaches the temperature that it was originally at before the "dinosaur killer" asteroid and the Deccan traps volcanism. What to do about it? Invent a fuelless motor, or something similar that would have a large impact on gas and energy consumption.
