Remote user needs to have remote desktop enabled and not be behind a firewall.

All you need from them is the machine's IP and (if setup) the username/password to log into the machine's OS.

The computer name if over a local network, or an IP address would be more ideal. Remember to activate remote desktop from the remote tab in system properties. Remote desktop is possible through a firewall, providing you set proper exceptions in the firewall. If you are using the standard windows firewall, windows will usually configure that firewall to allow remote desktop connections upon activation.

VNC is an excellent program to use for this! The program needs to run on the computer you're connecting too (the server) and the computer you're using to connect to it (the client):

You can also try derived versions, which are good too:

One nice One I like is a service called LogMeIn.com. You simply run the program on the computer you want to connect too. Then login from ANY computer from a web browser (which must have Java enabled - which it usually is on most computers).
