The best thing to do is contact your state rep and find out what the law says about 14 year olds working. There are some jobs and many states will accept - 'hardship' cases where the child may have to work to help support the family but the person who hires you will have very, very strict rules to apply to your employment. You might consider walking people's dogs, or some light housecleaning for people you know....your mom would have to approve. You have to be very careful out here....You might consider 'writing letters for people, or making cards and selling them - there's lots you can do. When I was 14, I didn't call it work, but I taught piano lessons and charged $10 per hour. I had 10 students and they came once a week....hey ! I also played for people's weddings, and sang for money. Eventually, this led me to a 10 year career in the music industry. SO, you never know......

I live near Cleveland and saw in the paper that 13 year olds can get a job at a local country club as a golf caddy. Good excercise, good money and a chance to meet influential people that may be good to know as you get older.
It's cool that u want to get your mom something nice. You sound like a good kid. Keep it up!!!

Many businesses hesitate to employ minors because of the legal restrictions on working hours and documentation required. A better option is to work from home on your computer- write articles, sell on eBay,make a website, take surveys. More details are available at http://www.pcworkathome.net/jobsforminors.html

baby sitting is good. i don't know about your area but in my area 12 yr olds can get paper routes. In my area 14 year olds can also work with parents permission. the problem is that most places won't hire 14 yr olds. Child labor laws are different from state to state.

Depends. I live in Tennessee, Our Chick Filet hires 14 year old. There are just so few hours that you can work.
Some places do hire, you just have to ask around...

You will still be really young to have a real job. You should try babysitting for relatives or friends of the family and build your clients.

I know that chick fila hires at 14 and then you get Sundays off and they will work with your school schedule if you choose to continue in the fall. But don't tell them you only want temporary or they wont hire you.

most places don't hire until 16. golf clubs might hire younger. Since you live in the city lawn care might not be profitable but you could always babysit, bake/cook, fix things, wash cars, etc

i would suggest maybe getting certified with the red cross, they have babysitting classes there, you get certified and more parents would trust u with their children.. babysitting can be a lot of fun and very rewarding... not to mention it may teach you a lot.. plus you get out of the house more.. which is always good.. best times to babysit is on the weekends... you get more money lol
