I am going to build a platform the size of cuba in the pacific ocean. Can I build a platform in international waters, then declare it a free and independant state?

Hey guys, I just want to know if I could do it. Just pretend I have $1,000,000,000,000.

Assuming of course that you have the money, you could legally do it, such as purchasing an island in the middle of the pacific ocean. However, to be truly considered a country, you'd have to have subjects, with which to rule. You'd have to find enough people willing to have you as their leader. Think you could pull that off? Then, you'd have to be recognized by the already established countries, but, yes, you could do it. Let me know when you do this, and I'll be your minister of reproduction. You know the person in charge of seeing who has the right to procreate...usually going through me...
