Is it true that gemstones & crystals have some sort of power?

I've heard that different gemstones and crystals are worn and used for different purposes. For example, they can effect your mood or luck?It has something to do with chakras? Or anyone heard of gemstones healing somebody? Anyway it was interesting...just wondering if anybody had any ideas?

Everything on Earth has some sort of power...like a frequency. As for whether or not it can affect your mood or bring you luck...well, I don't think it is very likely, but there are people who believe in it. In general, these people say that the stone itself is not powerful, but helps you channel your own powers.

From my perspective, if looking at a purple stone makes you happy, then that in effect has changed your mood. Is it more than this? I personally don't think so, but again, there are people who believe that it is not that simple.

You'll find conflicting information all over the Internet, and each person who answers your question (without being a jerk or a comedian) will give you their own opinion.

My opinion is that they are just pretty stones that can have sentimental and psychological value. I agree with the others who say that believing in something gives it power...but only through you. In other words, the stone doesn't have power, you do. The stone just helps you use your own powers. Like a baby blanket is very powerful to a toddler. If you put a lot of faith in a particular stone (or blanket,) then it will hold a personal power for you. Sort of like a focus point for your own energies. It connects back to finding a purple stone pretty. if you think about being happy every time you look at it, then your mood will get better when you look at it.

Otherwise, I'm not convinced that the stone will actually do anything on its own. Really, this is something unproven, so it just comes down to whether or not YOU believe in it.

Different stones carry different energies, as do different colors. A quartz crystal is the best thing to use for a general purpose stone, it can cleanse, it can heal, and it can balance. Hematite is a great stone for protection and warding negativity. Although, if you have the stone and you don't believe that is going to help you, you drain it's energy from it. It is very important for the stone bearer to believe in what they are out to accomplish. Another thing to keep in mind is that these stones are not just "fancy" stones or gemstones. River rock is a very powerful stone, as it is straight out of the water, and has not been manipulated by man to make it look different, it is from the earth as are all stones. The earths energy is the best healer there is.River rock has many healing properties in itself. I use them for healing therapy.

I will probably get a lot of thumps down for saying this but going to say it anyway.

Yes any stone that is a member of the quartz crystal family has certain abilities.
Some of these can be for healing, as well as amplification.

But from my long experience of using and being familiar with them, I have come to understand that they are nothing more than amplifiers of your own mental thoughts. Weather these thoughts are sub conscious or conscious makes no difference.
It is your state of mind at the time you are using the crystal.
All things that exist have a vibrational tones different from ours. How we use these alternate vibrations is up to us.

So to answer your question, in my opinion YES they do.

all i know is that throughout history there has been the belief that certain stones could heal, chase away evil, etc. i do know that if you wear a crystal around your neck it draws the negative energy from you. it will cloud up and then you put it on your window sill the night of the full moon and it will clear up again. i have seen this happen. i have also seen a crystal turn almost black and crack on the inside after the person only wore it for 3 days. this person had many physical ailments. i am not teasing you this is a personal account. mamasan

I think its something that has emotion attached to it, which is why people believe it holds power. I think it is kind of like Ghosts were if someone has emotion attached to it, an energy can be left behind.
I mean, people used to go crazy for things like gold, which I think is why people feel an energy.
I believe people who believe in the stuff, are the only ones who can feel it.

A friend gave me a gem a long time ago, and it always seemed like something uncanny would happen. (In a bad way.)

One time I worked for a charity that sponcored a haunted house, you know where they decorate a house so it lokk sliek it is haunted and people dress up and come out a scare the patrons, well some of the people who volunteered were weird people. One person said they had a crystal that had magical power, she said it had a spirit in it. I think the crystal had a demon in it, if thats possible.

I actually have a friend who is a psychic...and she does many things with gemstones and crystals...they can harvest energy, and sometimes be used in spellwork...i personally received a crystal from her once and had to clean it in ocean water...and it brought me good luck and served its purpose...

cirtian gems and stones affect the way energy is flowing in the area, atlantiens used large quartz crystals to power their cities, they called them quartz power crystals, ppl today have used them in contrast with the casimir effect and have achieved zero point energy, ppl say they are rocks, but they think whut they knoe is right, and thats the way it is, those are the people that would die if they knew the truth, it would be too hard on them...primitive little humans..

I think that some types of quartzes have a property to them that allow them to generate some energy. What that energy is, I don't know. Think along the lines of quartz movement watches.
