note on the make and model of your hard drive and go to the manufatures web site, download there hard drive utilities, with that you can format the new drive, with same utility that you downloaded, should have the option to copy the contents to the new drive, i have wd drives, so use maxblast just for that purpose

What exactly are you trying to do? If your going to install windows on the new hard drive, just do that and then, Hook up both hard drives inside your pc, The new drive will show up as the next letter in your list of connected drives, (Right click start, select explore. ), I find it easier to do this twice, to open two browsers, Then just drag the files that you want to the new hard drive, where you want them, (If it dont let you you may need to Right click the new drive and select format, (The NTSF is for drives over 150 gigs), the FAT is for smaller drives.. Thats the best way to do it. The programs make things go way to slow, and were made for people who don't understand how to copy and paist and all that..

use the software that came with the hard drive.or you can use cloning software
