Oh heavens, yes! And it can run down the battery! However, if it is going off every 8 seconds it sounds like the security device installed on the car may be at fault. If it honks, say 2 seconds, then 12 seconds, then 8 seconds and it constantly varies, there could be a short on the horn's connectors and the bumps in the road open and close the circuit.

May I suggest a mechanic, or on a cheaper note a boy friend, a brother, your dad, or your husband (well at least somebody with mechanical/electrical knowledge) check it out.

Good luck.

The horn switch in the steering wheel works off of a wire which runs up through the column to a brush which makes it to ground when the switch is pressed. If that wire gets worn it can cause an intermittant short which causes the horn to blow. Either unplug your horn wire or have the wiring checked. Chances are that this is a common problem in the car you have and a dealer will know right where to look.

Yup! It's possible. It happened to both my mom and my sister. I remember when it happened to my mom, whenever she made a right turn, her horn would beep. After a few times when this happened, if someone was outside on the sidewalk or in their yard, to play it off, my mom would wave like she blew the horn to say "Hey what's up". My sister's horn would go off randomly and it wasn't predictable. She did the same thing my mom did by just waving. They just ended up disconnecting the horn fuse until they were able to get it fixed.

Sounds like you have short in your panic button! Newer cars have a interval switch in case your are attacked or have an emergency the horn will sound at intervals alerting passing motorists!

A short won't cause it to go every eight seconds. Sounds more like you have a short or problem or something sticking in your alarm system.

sounds like you might have a malfunctioning alarm. but yes it is very possible that your horn could have a short. I have seen them in every thing.

yeah that sounds like it could be a short. you could disconnect the horn, or pull the fuse for it, the fuse might have other things on it though like your radio, so that wouldnt be a good idea
