for several weeks I have been hearing weird things. at random times during the day, I will hear (out of my speakers) a sort of distorted male voice saying "all systems ready" I checked my sounds, and it isn't there. McAfee finds nothing. Neither do adaware, and spybot.

Then today i heard it 3 different times. then a second ago something weirder. I heard a dial tone, someone dialing some numbers, and then the beginning sound of when someone uses dialup. I don't use dialup.... and it wasn't that.

It was like someone had picked up a phone and was calling someone, with the dialup sound on the end.

what is this?! why is it happening and how can I get it to stop?

Do you have AIM installed on your computer? If so, were you signed in at these times? I think there is a buddy sound that says "all systems ready!" There may also be buddy sounds for those beeping noises, but if not, who knows?

You know what it could also be? Sometimes, my speakers can pick up radio waves, so I can actually hear one of the radio stations! It might be that.

However, all of the stuff I just said may not be true, so don't take my word for it!

Are you near a repeater tower? Radio Station? Something in your computer is improperly shielded or the source for the unknown signal is very strong. Are you using wireless? Wifi, etc.
Portable phones can cause problems for wireless internet connections if they are using the same frequency. Not unusual in that instance.

Hmmm.... Never heard of something like that with a computer being hacked. Typically if you were hacked, they be looking for info on your computer, account numbers, passwords, type of thing.

You do have a firewall up, right?
