Dorsal means top or back side.
Ventral means bottom or belly side.

Dorsoventrally flattened means flattened from back to belly or from top to bottom. A flatworm shows this shape. It is wide, side to side, but flat from the top to the bottom.

dorsoventrally flattened means flat from the backside as well the front side. it would look something like a paper( not exactly though but still flat like it).
