Addicted does have a good list and your school should send you a list as well. Talk to your roommate ahead of time so you aren't bringing duplicates of large items. Dorm rooms are notoriously small...so anything that helps you get the most out of your space is a must! Yaffa blocks or any kind of stackable storage would work. My advice would be to start off with the basics and figure out your space. You can always bring more stuff later but it sucks if you bring too much and have to store it before your next trip home.

-two or three alarm clocks (trust me, you will need 'em)
-your favorite coffee mug
-computer but probably a laptop is better, also a printer
-USB memory stick (so that you can work in the lab, library)
-digital voice recorder with USB cord or one that uses memory sticks to record lectures
-at least one or two going-out outfits for the Freshman welcome events in the evenings or going out with your new friends
-portable air purifier (not only for clean air but on low setting, it will help you sleep)
-shoes for jogging, walking (wear comfortable shoes the first week of school because you will be walking a lot but girls never listen because they want to impress the guys)
-some of your favorite posters or stuff from your room so that you can uniquely identify your room and yourself to others
-also ask mom and dad for some extra spending money for the stuff that you didn't anticipate
-let's leave all the contrabands at home or hide them so your parent's can't find them while you are away :)

If you are living in a dorm, do NOT forget shower shoes and a robe. Also, if you don't know your roommate, I would take either a padlock for your closet or some lockable box for private or valuable things.

Addicted has a pretty good list. Your college should supply with a list as well. Most dorm rooms are bare bones, so anything you think will make it more liveable.

What for? If that is for an project, i could say convey Taxi driver (1976), you may really study that movie very deeply, so it is going to likely be extraordinarily ordinary for you and definitely, i'd actually help you...
