it is called a ring because wrestling evolved from the Greeks. they which invented the Olympics. At the first Olympics they wrestled in a circular enclosure, much like collegiate wrestling today and therefore that is the meaning of why it is called a ring

The word "ring" has many meanings, the biggest one is a circle, but it could mean a sound from a phone or an area in which people wrestle in. It's a term that wa used many many years ago.
Now they call it squared circle because if you look at the outside of the "ring" around the barracade it is in a circle. That's why they call it the suared circle

It's been called a ring since it was first used for boxing, no one really knows why. Now, we tend to call it the "squared circle". Yeah, like that makes anymore sence than calling it a ring.

Because they have ropes on it and it's better than calling it a square. If you listen to some of them they call it the "squared circle"
