Alright. So I just finished watching this movie for the first time, and at the end I was just like I have no idea what even happened. Can someone please explain like how he was dead but she saved him at the end, how they were two years apart, and how he waited for her? The whole movie really confused me. Thanks if you can help!

It's just an "alternate reality" kind of movie like SLIDING DOORS with Gwyneth Paltrow and PREMONITION with, again, Sandra Bullock.
Their paths crossed when he died in her arms. That is the trigger that makes her rent the house in the first place. There's like some sort of time warp that allows them to communicate, call it whatever you want ("the Hand of God" or the "Fickle Finger of Fate"). They fall in love by correspondence and then figure out they're living in different times. She manages to save his life by warning him away from the accident that killed him and, voila! They can be together finally!

i havnt seen the movie in a couple of months but ill do my best.
i think it went something like this... towards the biginning of the movie when she is in the square and the man dies that is him. which is why whenever he says that he will meet her for dinner in two years he cant.......because he is dead. i think she went to where his offices were(you probably know better than i do on the details), finds out hes dead and puts two and two together that that was him at the square. so she tells him not to go to the square hand he never dies. i may be wrong but i gave it my best shot.
as for the two years. its not that they are two years aprt it is that the mailboxs time vortex takes everything two years apart. basicly it is not them but the mailbox so it could have happened to anyone.

Okay so you know how at the beginning of the movie when she's eating lunch at the park and a guy gets creamed by the truck and dies? That's Keanu Reeves character. Because he knew where she was going to be he went there to see her instead of waiting the extra time to be with her and he gets hit by a truck.
So when she finds out that he died and when he died, she rushes back and writes to him begging him to wait... and he does.
