Yes, they should have it. That was always the tradition until Selig decided that ESPN should have the opening night game on Sunday night. I think opening day should be during the day, and that the Reds should host it.
BTW, the Reds were not called the Cleveland Spiders. The Reds were the Cincinnati Red Legs, the Cleveland Spiders were an entirely different team that disbanded after losing almost all of their games one season in the 1890s.

They were the first pro team, but that team only lasted one season before they moved. The current Reds were formed years later in a league called the American Association (1892 - 1891) before moving to the NL.
The two oldest MLB teams in existence are the Braves and the Cubs. The Braves have played in three cities, but the Cubs have been in Chicago since 1876. If you insist on having a team have the traditional opening day game, I'd give it to the Cubs.

the reds where the first pro team, so they should get start of the season. it is a holiday here in cincy, with or with out us getting the start of a season.
1871 Boston Braves .....note the word boston.. greg
no idea how they rule the cubs though. just know the reds are the first pro team.

We always play our first series of the season at home. I believe that it is adequate to have that distinction year in and year out. Also look at the site below. One of the above posters was wrong about their information. Take a look, the Reds were the first professional team in baseball, PERIOD. They started in 1869

Yes , but unfortunately $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ talks and thus another baseball tradition R.I.P. Just like would it kill Selig to have one Saturday daytime World Series Game?

They used to always be the major league opener. But now the almighty dollar makes those decisions.

Yes they should but this is just another great baseball tradition that has been ignored under Bud Selig's reign. He really sucks.

Ya, but Bud Seilg probably won't let them. The Reds use to be called the Cleveland Spiders, that's how old the tam is.
