scratch it with metals or any hard objects. if it doesn't leave a mark then it's real. Real diamonds can only be scratched by other diamonds so you'll know easily. Scratching it across a glass can sometimes not give accurate answer because other materials can scratch glass too.

Have it appraised by a Jeweler or see if it scratches glass. I heard if it does it is real, because Diamonds are a very hard substance. Good Luck

How cheap? The only real way is to take it to get appraised. I'm sure most reputable jewelry stores have someone who can appraise it for you. Did it come with a GIC certification? If it was reallllly cheap then it's likely fake, people want to make money, right?

Get it appraised at a jewelry store that has a high reputation like Zales.
I hate to break it to you, but if you got it for "a really cheap price" odds are it's not going to be real. Unless it's really tiny.

If you breathe on a diamond, it shoouldn't fog up for more than 2-4 seconds.

always for free and its a very simple machine that just has to touch it.
