I'm doing a presentation about Shakespeare in Japan and plan to mention such things as Akira Kurosawa's films retelling famous Shakespeare tales. I need legitimate academic sources to use in the presentation that might be able to help me out.

This isn't a "legitmate academic source," but I've written a long essay/book about Hamlet & Shakespeare. Part 3 of the book is my "Hamletonian" autobiography, using motifs and themes from Hamlet. The main theme of my autobiography is an apology to Japan for Hiroshima & Nagasaki, just as I believe the theme of Hamlet was Hamlet asking forgiveness for his father's war-making (this isn't explicit in the play - it's very subtly indicated by the wordplay).

Hi - There are a couple readings listed if you look up Akira Kurosaw in Wikipedia. It's listed under "Further reading". Good luck with your presentation.
