Well, since this is my “Dream Team” it would only be suitable to select all-time players; not just current…….makes the dream that much better. Top 4 starting lines of my dream team, (all-time players) would be:

1st Line:

C - Mario Lemieux
LW - Bobby Hull
RW - Gordie Howe
D - Bobby Orr
D - Doug Harvey

2nd Line:

C - Wayne Gretzky
LW – Frank Mahovlich
RW – Maurice Richard
D - Larry Robinson
D - Ray Bourque

3rd Line:

C - Jean Beliveau
LW - Dickie Moore
RW – Cam Neely
D - Paul Coffey
D – Eddie Shore

4th Line: (The Enforcers)

C – Tiger Williams (Actually LW)
LW – Ted Lindsay
RW – Bob Probert (Actually LW)
D – Tony Twist (Actually LW)
D - Georges Laraque (Actually RW)

Goalies:

Patrick Roy
Terry Sawchuk

First off, I know that all the players on the 4th line are not assigned to their proper positions, (except Ted Linday). The only reason this line would ever step foot on the ice, is to create more red for the red lines. They would crush, pulverize and annihilate all opponents with nothing but their fists.

Secondly, I know that there are sooooooo many other players to choose from history and present day, but this is the cream of the crop. (Crosby and Ovechkin haven’t proven sustainability like these other players have).

Lastly. I know that most people look at my top line center and think…..Lemieux?? Not Gretzky?? Sure Gretzky has all the points, stats, glamour etc., but if Lemieux were healthy as long as Gretz, he would have passed more of his records than you think. Look at their stats side by side and do the math “average” wise.

Here are a few names I considered but didn't make the final cut:

Martin Brodeur
Jacques Plante
Grant Fuhr
Glen Hall

Mike Bossy
Denis Potvin
Mark Messier
Pavel Bure
Sidney Crosby
Alex Ovechkin
Steve Yzerman
Joe Sakic
Chris Chelios
Jean Beliveau
Bobby Clarke
Marcel Dionne
Brad Park
Johnny Bucyk

I can't go with an all-time team because there are too many greats that I would feel like I'm snubbing somebody.

Line 1 (try stopping THIS)
LW - Malkin
C - Crosby
RW - Ovechkin

Line 2 (why break up a working line in Vancouver?)
LW - D. Sedin
C - H. Sedin
RW - Naslund

Line 3 (a playmaker in San Jose working with 2 snipers in Atlanta)
LW - Kovalchuk
C - J. Thornton
RW - Marian Hossa

Line 4 (blending physicality with skill)
LW - Tkachuk
C - Savard
RW - Jagr

Defensemen (looking to the present and future here)
Phaneuf
S. Niedermayer
Gonchar
Bieksa
Lidstrom
Pronger

Goalkeepers (1 and 1A, no real backup here)
Kiprusoff
Brodeur

1st line LW-E. Malkin C- S. Crosby RW- Dany Heatley (first line you have great talent and a little physical play in Heatley)
2nd line LW- A. Ovechkin C- J. Thornton RW- M. St. Louis (with Thornton great passing ability and two of hockey great goal score can light up the lamp)
3rd line LW- I. Kovalchuk C- J. Sakic RW- M. Hossa (great leader in Sakic with great shooters and great speed)
4th line LW- R. Smyth C- V. Lecavalier RW- T. Selanne (with Smyth in front of the net and Lecavalier hard work and Selanne great speed and accurate shot)

1st d-men S. Niedermayer N. Lidstrom (great leaders on and off the ice)
2nd d-men S. Souray C. Pronger (two great d-men that can rack up the points)
3rd d-men D. Phaneuf D. Boyle (physical play and great with the puck no stupid moves)

starting goalie M. Brodeur (simply been the best at his position for the last 10 years)
back-up goalie R. Luongo (finally getting his chance to show the world why he is considered the 2nd best goalie in the world)

i was thinking about putting Ovechkin with Crosby but they didn't look good together in the all-star game so that why i put Malkin with the KID cause they've played all year together and put a little physical presence on the line with also a great offencive mind in Heatley.

im just going by today's players.
