IS that what foreign aid does? Then we feed people all around the world. Billions! Just a little info for the folks here who hate Americans, it's our personal money being sent out all over the world.
We also feed our own, even the nonworking, and unwilling to work. We birth the babies in hospitals, and pay for that. AND we aid in helping people through natural disasters around the world, even with countries that aren't friendly to us.
ADDITIONALLY, the aid that the government sends, especially in disasters, is small compared to the private donations made by the American public to the less fortunate around the world.
However, I shouldn't be confusing people with facts, pardon me.

We don't tax the rich to feed the poor in the US. That implies there is a direct link between spending and taxes. If this was the case we would not have to spend 1/3 of the governments budget each year on interest on our debt alone.
Tax and spending bills are developed separate from each other and voted on separately. This leads to spending money we don't have. So we tax no one to feed the poor we just take out loans and don't worry about it because they will not need to be paid back while the people in office now are still there.

Of course it doesn't. The USA is one of the most capitalistic countries in the developed world.
This means that nearly all the First & Second World countries are less capitalistic.
Western Europe has one of the highest average tax rates in the world. Many countries there are social democracies, particularly the Scandinavian social welfare states - most of which boast very high standards of living. (Take a look at the UN Human Development Index.)
Tax the rich, feed the poor. It's the moral, humanitarian thing to do.
Long-term, it's also the smart thing to do. Poverty increases social instability & crime, and is definitely not beneficial for the overall economy.
Notice that suicide bombers & the terrorist foot soldiers tend to be poor. The rich ones like OBL buy and give them the guns & bombs. Just like it's the middle-lower-classes who make up the majority of the US front-line military, while it's the rich who give the orders and stay in the back.
The guy above who talks about generous US foreign aid, fails to realize that the US gives the smallest % of GDP out of all Western industrialized countries.

actually it is beginning to apply to the south american countries more so than it does to america, under this president there have been several tax cuts for the rich that didn't apply to the middle or lower classes.
meanwhile a decidedly socialistic trend is beginning to show signs of increasing support in latin america.
