Two days ago, I stupidly placed my rat (Sugar) on the kitchen counter. He ran off. We checked him to make sure there were no broken bones but we did not check to see if his mouth was okay. Yesterday, we noticed him playing with his mouth as if something might be stuck in it. We opened it and noticed a tooth missing. Right now I can't pay for a vet visit until I get paid in about two weeks. My mother has been mashing up his food and puting in a little ibuprofen for the pain. My question is, is there something we can do for him until we get him to the vet? And will the tooth grow back?

1. Stop with the ibuprofen. Aspirin is VERY poisonous to rats when the correct dosage is unknown. Increased possibility of gastrointestinal toxicity.

2. See if he can eat solids. A broken tooth could've happened before the fall, as they tend to break, if they were overgrown.

Teeth WILL repair themselves. Rats have a problem with overgrown teeth, because their teeth constantly grow.

The vet will probably clip the surrounding teeth to prevent overgrowth.

Keep in mind, any animal that can chew through sheet metal can't afford to have very sensitive teeth.

a vet visit would be a waste O' time and money. they animal is not in pain, he was messing with his mouth because felt different than usual, not painful. and even with a broken tooth he doesnt need baby food, maybe if he quit eating altogether i would believe he was in pain

Poor rat. How could you be so stupid??
No ia really don't think u can do anything about it but please dont O.D the rat. Another tooth may grow back. Or you could call a vet without taking the animal. That would be free!!!!!!!!

Well, teaching him to be the world's best whistling rat is now out of the picture! I hope that you are proud of yourself! So much for his dreams of Hollwood and movie stardom!
