I am going to upgrade my desktop because I have a calculation project that I need to do. Therefore, SPEED of cpu is the most important!!! Should I choose a dual-core cpu or 2 cpu? Which cpu you would recommend? Please give me the best option and I will think about the price later.

Thanks

I'm an AMD fan, but the Intel Core 2 Duo seems to be the processor to get right now.

I'd go with the newest/fastest dual-core Intel you can afford. Dual processors are still usually only used on some servers or high end graphics computers for commercial use. I think you'll find broader and better long time support for the dual-core processor when it comes to software and continued general usage. Also consider not only the cost of 2 processors, but the special MoBo needed to support them.

Dual core can be good, cheap and reliable. If you can shell out more money, thenbuy dual processor. but this article says not much of a difference
