How much do you think is appropriate to spend on an engagement ring? If you were going to buy one, what would you spend on it? If you have purchaced one in the past, what was it like and how much did you spend?

Well tradition plays a big part in this.I think tradition has pushed prices and expectations way up.Most couples planning to get married have enough expense to worry about after they do get married so why spend a fortune on a engagement ring that will only contribute to this large debt.My highest price for an engagement ring wouldn't be over 1200$ tops.

tradition state 3 month salary.. but here is the catch.. the jewlery companys came up with that one// can you really put a price tag on your love if you can then think about it before you say i do.. some people can not even afford real rings or engagement ring.. that dont mean that they dont love each other .. it means that they dont have the money.. or they are saving for other things.. like a home or feature children..

If the price tag is what matters, then just put a big rubber stamp on the forehead that reads "I am a superficial gold digger". I think that saving to buy a house after the wedding is a whole lot more important than a piece of jewelry that will depreciate at a rapid rate.

It depends on what you can afford. My husband bought me a beautiful engagement ring when he proposed and years later he bought me another more expensive ring. He said he wished he could have bought a nicer one when he proposed, but it was what he could afford at the time. I am a big believer in buying what you can afford.

Junebug is right. Affordable is the key. No one should go into debt over a ring, because as she said, you can always upgrade to a more expensive one when it is affordable.

Hope I helped.
