It depends where you are. If you live in the eastern U.S. or a humid environments look for slopes. If you are in western U.S. or a dry climate look for cliff forming units. Now if you want to make sure that you have a limestone, scrape off all of the weathered rock and apply vinegar. If the rock fizzes then you have limestone, or the closely related rock like calcite.

The area around Cincinnati, Ohio (USA) has abundant limestones. Around St. Louis, Missouri, also has limestone cropping out.

if you are in texas...go to austin and around there...literally on the side of the road.

i just got off a field trip a few hours ago and we stopped on the side of the road, dropped acid on rocks and if it fizzed BAM its limestone.

it was at mt bonell
