if someone can explain to me how building a wall around an area you've occupied, outside your borders cutting through towns and villages and cutting people off from their own land in an area that by international law you shouldnt be their anyway...is the way to a longterm peace...then maybe i would see the logic in building it....but i doubt it

If done right, it's a good idea but that would require mining the entire length. Some terrorists will be able to fool security at the crossings but the Israeli people would be a whole lot safer with a walled/mined border.

Justness depends on the beholder. Israel was invaded by the so-called Palestinians when the countries they were a part of, Jordan and Egypt did so. Since then, there were several other wars all but one started by the surrounding Arab-ruled countries. Intransigence on both sides has prevented a lasting peace. Palestine has been granted their own government which has not exactly made their Arab-ruled neighbors and Israel very comfortable. The border has not been defined and negotiations have stagnated. Without an end in sight, Israel has been forced to take the drastic measure of defining the border on their own by building the wall careful to keep most Israeli villages on the Israeli side and abandoning isolated enclaves and even forcing those Israelis off their land. Eventually, the world will recognize this defacto border as the real border much like terrorist organizations have been recognized as a legitimate government (Ex: the PLO). Heck, many Israelis officials are former terrorists vs the British. Of course the Arab and Palestinians in the area that want to enslave and/or annihilate the Israeli people see it as unjust. To them, Palestine, which came into existence in the 1920s as the British mandate of Palestine but before that was divided up by semi-independent Syria and Egypt within the Ottoman Empire, includes all of Israel since much of the population there was not Arab and most of the Israelis only had a little "Palestinian" heritage due to interracial marriages since the Romans spread them around their empire to put an end to the constant revolts against their proxy Arab (Hashemite) rulers.

In time, I suppose status quo will win.

First of all, the apartheid wall doesn't divide Palestine and Israel; it's not built on the green line. This wall is built on the lands of the West Bank which are supposed to be for the Palestinians according to Oslo accords. The building of this wall was planned previously. For sure it's the ideal way to destroy the Palestinians and destroy the dream of a Palestinian state on 1967 borders. It also destroys the economy of the West Bank; most of water wells are now behind the wall, thousands of hectares of fertile lands are now seized by Israel behind the wall. This wall puts thousands of obstacles in front of communications between us the Palestinian people. Many houses were torn down to build the wall and many trees were taken down as well.
To those people who claim that this wall is for security purposes I say: near the wall (about 20 meters far of it) there is a Jewish settlement, why hasn't it been attached to the lands behind the wall? Isn't Israel concerned about its security?! Why did Israel build the wall in the West Bank? Isn't it better to build it on the "former" Israeli-Palestinian borders?!
The idea of the wall likens the Idea of "Allon Road". See these links.

a great pitch bro
out of left field that one
a wall on the legal border according to the 66 agreement would be fine
but govt contractors are putting up walls by whim
to whos plan man
look at the zig zag line bro
its not a wall its a crown of thorns
on the head of christ
look at the shape of the land
its like the jewish leader ship noted jesus face and scratched it all out
the wall follows precislly each scratch mark [not the real border as agreed in previous agreeements
a whole new ridiculous man deluded wall
yet by gods law it still remains as if an unwalled city
god gives no dispensation to trick walled cities

Is the wall dividing America and Mexico a good idea?
I think that should be the question, not this.

Oh, and reading the above, i love all the loaded language like 'apartheid wall', because you know, Palastinians treat Jews with great respect and all.

In one sentence, Israeli fanatic leaders want to keep occupying land by all means that was never part of Israel.

Where the wall is in place, there's been a dramatic drop in terrorist activity, meaning less dead Israelis, and since Palestinians seem to enjoy blowing themselves up, less dead Palestinians, too.
