my eight year old helps because he is very enthusiastic about learning. I wish my other family members felt the same, I clip the box tops and beg them to not throw them away but they absentmindely do so all the time, each top is worth .10 to your school. what incentive do you think i can use to get my hubby and other kid to not discard them so thoughtlessly?

Ignore the other post; box tops are real. You just turn them in to your school.

I put an envelope in a drawer, but with 4 kids, a husband and my father in law someone was often throwing them out. My daughter's class had a contest and she wanted desperately to contribute. When we went grocery shopping we would tear off the box tops as we put the groceries away. Usually it is just the top corner of the box so the food was fine if we took it off before using the product.

We were able to save many more this way. Sometimes the boys would still throw away one that was from a refrigerated or frozen item, but in the end we saved a lot more by using this method.

You better check on that, because when I worked for the Kidney Foundation people were always hearing these rumors that if you saved, box tops, cigarette labels, the flip top from drink cans, etc. they Kidney Foundation would get money from the companies that made the products: it was total fiction.

You should check out your box tops because you can be doing to all the work and then it will not be worth anything.
