Right, now thats sorted... Click Start> Control Panel (>Switch to Classic View) > Add Hardware

Click Next, and wait for the wizard to finish, then click Finish.

Hey Presto, your drive is back online.

If you are still having problems, email me from my profile page, and I'll help you further.

If I knew what operating system you were using it would help. I'm assuming that you are running Windows XP. Go to Device Manager, you can get there by opening a command prompt and typing DEVMGMT . You can also get there with Control Panel | System | Device Manager.

Open the entry for CD/DVD and see if your drive is there at all. If it is and there is a yellow exclamation point in front of the drive name, Right-click the drive and select UNINSTALL. I'm serious. That's what you do. Now, you reboot. Windows should come up with a message saying "New Hardware Found" and it will try to install drivers. This will work if your drive worked before.

What if there is no entry for your drive in Device Manager? Then you right-click on the computer icon at the top of the Device Manager list. Select "Scan for Hardware Changes" and let it search for them. Again, this ought to work if the drive worked before.

Good luck.

Hey, just use the Back-up CD your laptop came with, when you first bought it. Only use if you accidentally deleted a system program. Once fixed don't forget to back your whole PC up, by CD-Roms or a back up hard drive. Hope this helps.

You can't delete a CD drive! You'll need to explain better what the problem is.

I suspect that you have only deleted the shortcut on your desktop. Click on My Computer and you should see it there. Right click on the icon and select 'Make Shortcut'. Then drag the new shortcut back on to your desktop.
