HELP ME! Should this baby polar bear cub be killed?!?!?!?
A three month old polar bear cub is at the Berlin Zoo in Germany. ONE animal rights activist says that it should die because humans have to feed it etc. But, the cub is healthy and doing well. Why kill it? Please help save the cute lil white fluff ball! Help save this polar bear cub from death. It is healthy...so why death?

I have signed and no the cub should not be killed.

I am all for animal rights but don't see how this bear being hand reared hurts it's animal rights.

If they hand reared it for no reason then yes but it's mother refused to care for it.

Even if there were plans to release it into the wild (which there aren't)hand rearing wouldn't matter.Other large predators have been hand reared and then trained as juveniles to hunt and to learn that people can be dangerous. It's been done successfully with tigers and lions and cheetah's,wolves, wolverines and brown bears so why not a polar bear?

Polar bears spend most of their lives alone and even mating is a tense time for them as they just don't like spending time together,so a lack of social contact with other bears doesn't matter.

Also the cub is male so it will never have to know how to rear cubs of it's own.

Don't worry, Knut is not going to be put down. If anything, he has captured the hearts of the vast majority of Berliners and he has become quite the tourist attraction. He made his first appearance to the public a few days ago with his handler, Thomas Doerflein.

That bizarre remark from the animals rights activist did the opposite effect - it created a wave of sympathy and support for little Knut. Who knows, maybe Knut will help make people more aware about the plight of all polar bears and their endangered habitat. Now that's a thought!

Cheers,

Thankfully the cub is not going to be killed. That was stupid for anyone to say. The media made a big story out of it. It wasn't the cub's fault to be alive so why should he be dead. I am sure he will adjust once he is sharing with other bears..

The very same people who have suggested that that bear should be "allowed" to die, are the ones who applaud the "rehabilitation" of orphan orang utangs in Sumatra, orphan gorillas in Africa and so on.
Hypocisy is the word that come to mind.

I dont see why they should kill him, ok fine hand rear him and then release him in the wild and if he dies naturally then thts fine,or they could just stick him in a zoo for a sad miserable but comfortable life,

I wouldn't worry, no one would allow this little cub to be destroyed.
