It is because he is in fact over-rated. The only reason why people say he is so great is because he is on the Yankees and the Captain and all that. Don't get me wrong, I think he is a great ball player but he is not as good as everyone thinks he is. And he is definitely not Captain material. After the way he left his teammate A-Rod out to dry last year when the media and fans were attacking him showed 0 class. As a captain you are supposed to stick up for your teammates and all he could do was say that Alex do his own thing. That is just awful. He did have a year last year that was worthy of the praise he deserves though and if he puts another couple of years together like that again that I would say he isn't overated.

I have no idea where other ML players would get the idea that Jeter is overrated. ha ha

Then again maybe it's because of the 10 AL shortstops who played enough to be considered full time, Jeter ranked LAST in defense yet he wins the gold glove. The gold glove rarely goes to the player who actually was the best defensively at his position. It is a popularity award.

Jeter is a very good offensive player and a very bad defensive one. He has very little range and not much of an arm. He plays on great teams with great players yet never once in his career has he turned 100 doubleplays in a season.

They are just jealous. Jeter won 3 gold gloves in the past 3 years. Came number 2 in the batting race, hit 14 homers, had over 210 hits. Also his team came in the playoffs and he is captain of the most prestigious team in baseball.

I couldn't answer that. The reason I respect Jeter so much-and I am NOT a Yankee fan-is that he has brass b----. When the chips are down, when the pressures on, he's at his best. He turns it up a notch or three and delivers. Maybe he receives more attention than he would otherwise because he plays in NY, but in his case, I think he deserves the accolades that he gets.
