My daddy was killed when he was just 23 years old by a drunk driver when my parents and I were on our way home from a county fair in Illinois when I was 13 months old.

I lost a very good friend due to being hit by a drunk driver who was DWI at 9am in the morning. The drunk driver went through a stop sign and hit my friend on the side of her minivan, killing her within minutes of the crash. My friend died, leaving her husband (who was her childhood sweetheart since age 12 and lifelong best friend) a widower with 3 sons to raise alone. The youngest one, age 7 months, had been just dropped off at the daycare. My friend was liked by everyone who knew her and she is still missed.

The drunk driver never should have been behind the wheel of the vehicle. In addition to being drunk, her license had been previously suspended and her car impounded. A sympathetic friend of the drunk driver allowed her to borrow a car that morning.

For her second offense, the drunk driver got a six month jail sentence.

Unfortunately yes. My brother was a passenger in a car wreck that killed his best friend. Ever since that day, my brother has been an alcoholic and has never been the same person. I feel alcoholism has taken the life of my brother as well because he isn't the brother I loved and cared for anymore. :((

About 50% of vehicle fatalities are due to drunk driving. Even more if you are 15 to 25.
