Hi chw007,
You can turn it off in options but I would not recommend that. The updates are released when new malware threatens and should be run daily.

I wouldn't recommend you to do it since you won't be able to receive updates for the latest threats (new ones every day), but if you really want to do it you need to open your Norton Internet Security window and then click on the "Options" tab, then click on "Norton antivirus". You'll find an Internet section. Once there go to "LiveUpdate", click on it and uncheck the Automatic LiveUpdate.
Good luck

Click the down arrow next to the avatar (Toolbar Settings) then click add/edit buttons. You are now in the button gallery, and you should see it on the list on the right side..Highlight it, then click on the x, to remove it..good luck..

Uninstall it and all Norton software on your PC.
Download some free anti-virus software at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 and get your anti-spyware from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
