Yes. It is easy to make a print server out of any old computer. It needs to be running Windows 98 or better but I recommend Windows 2000 because it has better networking features (don't try Windows XP on a computer older than 5 years because it will be just too slow). Now, you just need to hook the computer up to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse so you can configure it. Make sure that you use wired ethernet to connect the print server to your router, becuase a wireless connection can fade in and out. Set up your printer, attaching it to your print server PC, and make sure that sharing is enabled properly. Test from one of your other computers to make sure that your printer is visible on the network and can print.

Once all is properly configured, you can choose to leave a monitor, keyboard, and mouse connected to the print server or disconnect them. Keep in mind that if something goes wrong, you will need to reconnect them to troubleshoot.

Other than that, you can leave it running most of the time, and just reboot every so often (as long as you don't do anything important on there, you can just press the power button and not worry about clicking shutdown) if you have trouble.

You may also decide to make the same PC your file server. This wouldn't be a good thing to do if you need to travel with files on a laptop, but if you have a desktop or a laptop you don't carry, you can map My Documents to a folder on the server, so that your documents are the same anywhere on your network.

i don't. I in basic terms tip people who're offering a luxurious provider. Like eating place/bar servers, hairstylists, estheticians, the guy that pumps your gasoline.. If I order takeout from a take a seat eating place then I tip because of the fact i know the server has to tip out the kitchen for the nutrients. yet i don't tip at Starbucks or quickly nutrients places.

it all depends on what "spare hardware" you have? possibly yes with a spare computer and a connection to your network yes.
