Sanjaya Malakar, 17, is from Federal Way, WA. He auditioned in Seattle with his sister, who was eliminated at the Hollywood stage of the competition. Sanjaya says he started singing as a little boy and had formal singing training.
Sanjaya, who spent four years performing with the Hawaii Children Theater, claims he is a shy person and says "I'm scared that I'll never be able to walk into a supermarket without someone recognizing me." His music idol is Stevie Wonder.
I think people are voting for him to make a mockery of the show!

I doubt Sanjaya is gay. People are always confusing effeminate with gay. Sanjaya is a girly man for sure, but probably not gay.
If there is one homosexual male on American Idol, my pick would be Blake Lewis. Creativity like that just doesn't come in straight guys.

Well I think he's annoying and pretty much untalented in the singing department. At least compared to the rest of the people present on America Idol.
I can't wait to see how many thumb downs this gets from his dedicated and brainless fans.

I cant beleive he was not in the top 3.

He can't sing as well as the other contestants. But he still can sing better than most of America. He did beat out thousands of other contestants to make it to Hollywood. He won't win American Idol, but he is very likeable. I wish him the best of luck.
