The lion would probably win, because its strategy is to choke its opponent, while the tiger goes for the back of the neck, where the adult male lion has mane to protect him.
There was a show on Discovery last year, pegging a lion against a tiger in a computerized mock fight, and the lion wins; this answer is just a transposition of this show result.
Lions and tigers would not likely fight for food against one another because they do not live in the same area.
But if they were forced in the same area, with limited food, why yes, they would fight.

People keep saying that their ranges don't intersect, however they do. There are still a small amount of lions in India in the Gir forest but these are smaller than African lions. In an unlikely fight between these, the tiger would win beause it is larger and has more power. An African lion is much bigger than an asian lion and unlike Tigers, they live in very social prides while the Tiger lives a solitary life. In the even more unlikely event that these two would get in a fight, the lion would most likely win. Male or female, either is extremely powerful. However the male has a thick mane to protect its neck. The tiger might be bigger, however the lion would most likely win. The lion has to hunt all the time to provide for the pride. The tiger hunts every once in a while to provide for its self. The lion has much more experience and tricks. Please remember though that these fights would rarely occur.

There are Asiatic lions according to this program last night or this morning. The tiger outweighs it by about 100 pounds and even a whole pride of lions would have trouble with one ferocious tiger, according to the narrator the tiger is dominant, though the film footage it appeared a standoff to me.

This question smarks of idiocracy...child`s stuff like asking if types of snakes fight , who will win.
To the specific answer, these two species do not live next to each other even in caged areas. These two animal types are very different in make up.All cats species have inborn respect unless you have been changed by some cartoon network. In short animals rarely fight.

Tigers would probably win because they're bigger. They wouldn't fight (in nature) because their ranges don't intersect (lions in Africa, tigers in Asia).
