things like restricting black hairstyles, african jewelry and clothing. Forcing blacks to change their hair to fit "Anglo" standards is ignorant and indirect racism. It's not cheap or easy for blacks, especially women, to manage their hair, to keep it straight, and generally cornrolls, etc last a long time and don't require much managment. And it's representative of African American, or other black ethnic cultures which should be respected and not put down. A person can appreciate their own ethnic heritage in whichever ways they want and be a professional business person as well. If employers are not able to look past this, they do not have very good priorities. It's not very much different than turbans, hijabs, skullcaps, yarmulkes or any other ethnic hairstyles.

I had that happen once. The girl who now does traffic at New Haven's Channel 8 and I were talking back in the day when she was an intern, and we were talking about hairstyles. At the time, I kept mine long, straight and brown-black (I'm Eastern Cherokee) and liked mixing in traditional items such as cornbeads or shell with my everyday wear. She said she didn't wear things like that because she wanted to look "professional." I told her I can be Native and professional, and not for nothing, but she was in MY country. Of course, the white girl got the better job (that's what people like to see on TV here and in most of the US so I've been told by a few news directors I've worked for who were POd at the idea.)
I since donated my hair though, and am growing it out again.

Yes you are correct I am natural with dreadlocks never ever have worn make up! Pure African features, beautiful every race of man has stated this to me with affection and respect!
the hair is what sets us from all others for ours curl and bend close to the scalp we can do anything with ours - hay!!humidity causes the hair to curl really tight!
oh now our hair is able to become straight also many of dark skinned proves this look at those of us from Asia (Indians) whites call them I just call the Indians Africans with straight hair ! We are so very diverse and beautiful!
a white man could not ever cause his hair to curl tight on his hair as we are able to remove the curl from our hair!
there was a time when we wore our bushes braids and bushy pony tails all natural in the 1960's then the more rights obtained the further from ones self they went with appearance
you do know the pale man thing is the tan?~! now imagine that they know black is beautiful no need for them to say so but boy do they show so!
and to answer you question. at the rate of the turn in power in the USA the whites are more emulating the Africans and all others of color than us emulating them check out the hip hop craze! the language of Ebonics or slang is also being dubbed by them. whites are a small race of man compared to the colors in the united states and the world this is why Islam continue to grow also for your kind information the treatment of those of all colors from the whites is why they are hated by all other continents don't forget the Indians own the northern continent not the whites and believe this - there taking it back soon real soon!

What white standards are you referring to? If you go back fifty years and more, blacks and whites wore the same clothes, listened to the same music.
It's only in the last few decades that the synthetic black culture has been created. And why was it created? Well, let's look at what I am talking about.
From the Twenties up into the Fifties, most of the best musicians were black. They appealed to both black and white audiences. I am referring to bands like Count Basie and Duke Ellington. Other famous black entertainers include Billy Eckstein and Nat Cole. Were these great artists emulation "white" standards? I don't think so.
In the 1960's, the synthetic black culture was created to alienate blacks from whites. Young blacks were shown how to dress, how to act, and what their musical preferences were supposed to be, by mainstream media. Even today, the worst element is featured on radio and television stations aimed at young blacks.
Blacks who reject this ridiculous image (rag around the head, pants falling down, loud and violent behavior) are accused of acting "white". This is really an insult to blacks. The implication is that blacks are supposed to act rude and uncivilized.
There is nothing "white" about acting like a civilized person. There are plenty of white people who act like animals. Remember, how you act has a great deal of how you will be treated. If you act like a clown, nobody is going to take you seriously.

Ain't nobody gonna make this white boy cut his beautiful long blonde hair. Pony tail is the furthest I will go to appease the masses. I'm not covering my tats either, just because it's not socially acceptable. These days it seems if you want to fit "anglo" standards you need to have cosmetic surgery and be a metro-sexual. No Thank You.
As for forcing black people to change the way they look... I have never heard anything about that but it is definately wrong. Only thing I ask of anyone is to be kind, follow marley and go for "one love". Be good to me and you'll get that back.

There are racists people in all races. i might choose to declare the none-black racists are the worst racists ever existed. otherwise there are black racists too. yet i think of black racists are considered to have much less understanding approximately themselves and their society. working example the Rwandan genocide replaced right into a conflict between blacks which remained a loss of life of hundreds harmless people. the rationalization of that replaced into the so noted as white adult adult males, who taught the black people to have massive distinction in themselves. i don't think of black people hate the white as quickly as. What makes the black racists to be racists in the direction of white people is "historic previous"!

I have never heard any company refusing to allow a black person to wear their hair the way they wish to. Not here in Canada anyways. I would say if this is so anywhere it should be brought out to the public for the bigotry and terrible racist views. Everyone should be able to express themselves and be who they are and very proud of it...

I know how you feel about this issue. If you haven't read this book already, go and purchase this book called "Hair Story:Untangling the Roots of Black Hair In America" by Ayana D. Byrd & Lori L. Tharps. Every Black/African American/ people of African descent need this book! Or the people who are curious about the black culture can read it too.

Not racist, but wrong. No one should be forced to change their regular ways to become someone they're not.
