I have read some of your answers for other women with my same problem.. I have went to the doctor over and over again since i was like 5 years old about these migraines.. they went away when i hit puberty as well, and came back very bad when i started using birth control. I would get migraines for 3 weeks out of the month, and no matter how much asperin i would take, they would just came back with in hours.. or wouldnt go away at all.. Well soon enough I stopped talking the birth control pills all together, they arent as frequate as before, but i still get them about 3 days before my period.. I told my doctor that i stopped using the birth control and that i was still getting the migraines, and that i believed they were from hormones... he suggested that i take prozac, since im not able to take birth control... can anyone give me some other ideas besides taking antidepressents???????... p.s. sry my spell check isn't working lol

I dont throw up, but feel like i need to most of the time. When i have migraines half of the time i dont remember talking to people i talked to on the phone or even in person. Sleeping doesnt help, most of the time it just makes it worse, Sometimes when i lay down they will go away, but as soon as i stand up, even when its slowly.. they come back 10 times worse, and have to lay back down. its probably both head aches and migraines.. i just need some good advice.. i dont want to take some medication that is going to leave me basically dead to the world.....

I have suffered debilitating classic migraines all my life from the age 0f 7y.o, Vomiting slurred speech, blindness,I used to have Pethidine injections,go home and sleep, but as Iam maturing now they get less frequent and severe, they run in our family,
Antidepressants may help, but there are medications on the market nowadays you can take each day to stop the onset of them, I also had a cluster of them a few years back, 16 straight days with them, I finally went to a chiropractor, he fixed me up after 3 visits.I also used acupuncture that was a success, with out drugs. Good Luck

I have suffered from migraines since I was 10 years old-I am now 50 so I have had 40 years experience. I do know a bit about them. First, you can have a migraine at any time. There is no set pattern-I have gone months and even years without having a single migraine. There are many migraine triggers. Hormones play a big part. That is why women suffer from migraines 3 times more than men. A week before your period is the worst time. I found that birth control pills helped me. Also, sinus problems and allergies as well as hot weather can trigger migraines. Certain foods can also be a trigger-chocolate and sugar are the number 1 offenders. Cheese can also do it. Watch your stress level too. Ask your Doctor about the triptan drugs such as imitrex and maxalt. These are very effective-they are expensive though. I have found that 2 regular excedrin works pretty good most of the time-the trick is to take medicine before your headache gets to bad. Good luck.

I feel your pain as I often get bad headaches with my periods.
I guess I would classify them as a migraine as I can't "function"

I doubt prozac is the right drug. However I have tried drugs and nothing helped.

I find if I watch my diet (no red wine, lunch meat cut down on salt) and exercise - and +++ the water it helps.
Lately they come and stay for days.

My 8 year old actually has classic migraines that she sees light, vomits and is out of commission.
Nothing is really able to help her but rest, time and motrin (if she keeps it down).

I'd see another doctor - or a headache specialist.

I go thru hell with migraines. I find the best thing is a hot water bottle on your neck or head or hot shower. The pain you experience during an attack is caused by the constriction of blood vessels. Heat promotes expansion of the blood vessels thus alleviating the pain. It works very well and I can literally feel the tension and pain slip away.
Also try Nurofen Migraine. It contains an amino acid which helps deliver the pain killer straight to the area required. They work for me.

You should go to a neurologist they will find the right medicine combination for your migraines. They don't make you dead to the world, they control your migraines. Everyone gets bad headaches and cramps right before their period though.

You seem to be confusing hormonal headaches with migraines. Do you have vomiting? Does the migraine wake you up in the morning? Blurry speech? Intolerance to light? Nausea?
