I think people are voting for him to make a mockery of the show!

Sanjaya Malakar, 17, is from Federal Way, WA. He auditioned in Seattle with his sister, who was eliminated at the Hollywood stage of the competition. Sanjaya says he started singing as a little boy and had formal singing training.
Sanjaya, who spent four years performing with the Hawaii Children Theater, claims he is a shy person and says "I'm scared that I'll never be able to walk into a supermarket without someone recognizing me." His music idol is Stevie Wonder.

Evidently, Howard Stern the radio hellion is encouraging all his listeners to vote for the people who SUCK rather than the people who have talent in an effort to prove that letting the voters choose who gets a fabulous record contract is a complete farce.

He is around because he helps to keep the TV ratings high. People tune in to see how bad he is and if he is going to get voted out or not.
