how much of an advantage in college admissions would someone have if they studied abroad for a summer during high school over someone who didn't ?

It depends on what you did where, and how well you did in it.

I wouldn't really give much thought to it, unless they were doing something impressive. If it's not something impressive, it just shows they have money to go abroad.

you would have a better advantage if you did study abroad. colleges will consider you a mature, capable student, who is flexible and adaptable. it sets you apart from your peers by having an "international educational experience"
