If they call you they are liable for a $10,000 fine. However some are getting around it by using offshore call centers. Suck them in to telling you the phone number and company then report. I am signed up 2-3 calls last 2 years. If you sign up for something watch who you give your phone number to. Then they can call it implies permission.

All you say is "Take me off of your list' they have to. You should wait to make sure it is a telemarketer before you hang up. Could be important.

But for pure annoyance, you can hum a song, sneeze, speak a strange language.

Say stuff like. "you have a nice voice" etc

Actually, I have fun with them ! Since I live in Canada we all speak French and English. So when one calls that speaks French, I pretend like I don't understand a word and speak English only, and vice-versa ! They give up pretty quick !

Wait for them to talk and talk and talk then say... "Ok, that was a large thin crust pepperoni and a liter of Pepsi. Would you like some Crazy Bread to go with that today, sir?"

Just lay the phone down and let them ramble. Also you might want to get on a no call list.

I like to get rid of them like this:
ME: Yes, ...oh that IS a great offer. I's SOOOOO glad you called. This is great. I am so excited. I can't wait for it to arrive.
CALLER: OK What's your name and address?
ME: Well, I don't live here. I'm just babysitting, but I'm sure they'd want to go with THIS GREAT OFFER!!!
CALLER: Click
Hope you have some fun with this!!!!

I just say " i'm not interested, but thanks so much for calling". All they ever do then is say "uhhh, ummm, ok" and i say " bye now" and i hang up. No need to be nasty. (Although if they are persistant i will step it up; just ask to talk to their supervisor)/
