Well, it's of no use to pressure you for college, but they are probably trying to instill good study habits now so you have what it takes to make it into college. College, however, isn't for everyone. Some people are hands-on learners and might be better off going to a trade or tech school. This is no reflection on their intelligence. Plenty of very smart people would just be better chefs than paper pushers in an office.

Because you are half-way there. I know it seems like 6 years is a long time when you are 12 or 13 , but the fact is it isn't very long at all. In another year you will be going to high school, and the choices you make then will definitely have a bearing on where you will go after school.

That said, most decisions you are making now are pretty basic. You still have opportunities to change your mind...even finishing high school without knowing exactly where you are heading and what you will do is not the end of the world. But, those people who *do* have an idea now, and who do start preparing have an undeniable advantage.

Suppose you want to get into med school or veterinary college? The schools to which you will apply when the time comes will look at your grades all the way back to eighth grade - and unless your grades are WAY up there, you won't have a snowball's chance of getting admitted! The same is true of many other college programs - you gotta have exemplary high school grades, and you better have a long list of community service and extra-curricular activities on your resume too. Yes, you DO have to present a resume to get into most colleges now - and it will be harder when you're old enough to submit yours - so pay attention to your teachers or be prepared to spend your working life at your neighborhood Booger Fling serving stinky fries and grease burgers for under minimum wage...

Would you prefer teachers start pressuring you to think about which fast food place you'll be flipping burgers at? College is a big deal. If you are thinking about going to college you have to have a way to pay for it. A good way to fund a college education is getting scholarships. One way to get scholarships is to keep your grades up. Teachers have been in the same place as you and are only telling you these things to help you out.

Well I don't know about 7th graders, but 8th graders do need to decide whether or not they are going to college. If they decide they would like to go to college then in 8th grade they'd better choose college-prep classes for the 9th grade. There are usually two sets of classes in highschool: college-prep and non-college prep. If you sign up for the wrong classes, you might end up only being able to go to community college when all your friends go off to 4-year colleges.

Well, how well you do in 7th grade affects how well you do in eighth, and so forth. If you don't do well in school, you can't get into college. So you really need to step it up while you can and guarantee yourself a spot in a good college.
